My favorite book was “Labradoodle on the Loose” by T. M. Alexander. This book is about the adventures of five friends: Bee, Copper Pie, Fifty, Jonno and Keener (of course, these are only their nicknames). They have their own club called “Tribe”. The Tribers have fun getting in and out of danger. It’s non-stop for Tribe! In this book, there are three nice stories called “Fifty’s Kidnap”, “Bee’s Birthday” and “Red-Handed”. I liked all of them, especially the first one.
“Fifty’s Kidnap” is for those who have brothers or sister and love them very much! Fifty caused all sorts of mayhem. He was worried that his sister, Rose, would feel alone and sad at the nursery. Fifty loved his sister very much and he wanted to protect her from anything dangerous. When the Tribers went out to have a picnic, troubles started... First of all, Keener, who was in charge of Bee’s dog, Doodle, made a terrible mistake: instead of watching Doodle, he went to a boy called Marco to learn to mountain board. The lost dog brought panic in the Tribe Club, especially to Bee. Second of all, Fifty “kidnaps” his sister from the play area at the nursery. The police say that Fifty is guilty for “kidnapping” Rose. I said to myself that the word “kidnap” shouldn’t be used in this context... Like Fifty said “I didn’t kidnap her. You can’t kidnap your own sister.” It seemed silly though because nobody believed him... It was like a real kidnap, but a funny one anyway.
After a while, Fifty said that he took Rose from the nursery because he was totally worried about her. Fifty’s friends convinced him that the nursery wasn’t a bad place after all... I have a sister, too, and sometimes, I miss her when she goes to the kindergarten. Maybe I could kidnap her, too! :D
You might wonder: what happened to Bee’s dog, Doodle? Luckily, a friendly policeman helped the five friends in their search and brought Doodle safely back into the club. I liked this first story because it’s very funny and all this chaos with the kidnapped girl and the lost dog who finally turned out just fine!
“Bee’s Birthday” is for those who have older brothers or sisters... On her birthday, Bee made a tea party with her friends. Sadly, Bee’s two older brothers, Louis and Patrick, ruined the party by going wild and making terrible noises. Copper Pie, Fifty, Jonno and Kenner made a surprise party just for Bee (“There was country-dancing-type music playing in the garden – quite loud – and cushions round the rug for seating. The Tribehouse had a blown-up and photocopied a picture of Bee with Doodle on the door, a “Happy Birthday” banner along the side, and apples and oranges all along the ridge where the roof joins the walls. It looked made-up, like a gingerbread house. We filled the piñata with the goodies I’ve collected.”). I was very happy when the five friends had a lot of fun at Bee’s surprise party! There was no more trouble, just laughing all the time!
Tired of Sherlock Holmes? Here is a new exciting story called “Red-Handed” with the Tribers (give three cheers... or else!). Bee, Copper Pie, Fifty, Jonno and Keener had a new case: a whiteboard with some strange red words on it and an angry boy... The Tribers had to discover the truth! They falsely accused their arch enemy, Callum, but they soon discovered who was actually the boy who made all the fuss with the red words: Jamie, Callum’s friend. He had some problems: he was not one of the teacher’s favorite pupils and his mom was having cancer. This was the reason Jamie wrote ugly red words on the whiteboard... Anyway, after so many adventures and cases (and fun), the Tribers needed a rest.
I suggest this book for all the children. It has five stories waiting to be read and enjoyed. They are about kids who are not only smart, but also very cool! “Labradoodle on the Loose” is just perfect T. M. Alexander’s fans!
