The Big Surprise by Teodora Leon

Soon it was Angelina’s birthday. Alice, her best friend, wanted to make Angelina a big surprise! But she didn’t know what to do.
One day Angelina with her friends went to Miss Lilly’s ballet lesson. At the end of the ballet lesson, Angelina packed her tutu and her ballet shoes and she left. Alice, William, Flora, Felicity, Gracie and Vici decided to make a ballet show just for Angelina! “I’m sure that Angelina will be very surprised!” Alice said. “Yeah, but...” William said. “But what?” Flora asked. “Well...we’re not so good at ballet just like Angelina and...we still need to practice. Can one of you, girls, go and ask Miss Lilly if we are going to have some another ballet lessons?” William asked. “I’ll go!” Felicity said. After some minutes Felicity returned. She wasn’t so happy. “Felicity, is anything wrong?” Gracie asked. “What did Miss Lilly say?” Vici asked. “She said that we are going to have two free weeks and we will not come to ballet lessons!” Felicity said. “Oh, no! After two weeks it’s Angelina’s birthday, too! What shall we do? What shall we do?” Alice asked, agitated. “Hey, I’ve got an idea! Maybe Serena Silvertail can help us! My mom talked with her and she said that she will come in Chipping Cheddar soon!” William said. “What a great idea!” Flora said. “Come to my house this afternoon. We will ask my mom if Serena Silvertail is really coming to Chipping Cheddar, okay?” William said. “That sounds like a plan to me!” Felicity said. “Okay, we will see you to your house.” Gracie said. “Oh, I can’t hardly wait to hear if Serena Silvertail is coming or not!” Vici said.
After lunch, the girls were in front of William’s house. They knocked at the door. William answered and he said: “Great, you are here! Come in, come in!”. Alice, Flora, Felicity, Gracie and Vici entered the house. In the living room, on a little table, there were six sandwiches with cheese and meat and chocolate sweets. “Enjoy the sandwiches and the sweets. I’ll go and ask mom about Serena Silvertail. Be prepared to hear a “yes”!” William said. “I’m already prepared!” Alice said.
After one minute William came back. He looked horrified! “What’s the matter, William?” Flora asked, eating a sandwich. “Don’t tell me!” Felicity said. “Yes...Serena Silvertail can’t come anymore to Chipping Cheddar. She doesn’t have time!” William said. “Oh, no! Just like Alice said: “What are we going to do?”.” Gracie said. “This is a totally disaster! No Serena Silvertail and no ballet lessons means...no gift for Angelina!” Vici said. “What’s wrong, girls? William, why are you sad?” Mrs. Longtail asked. “Well, mom, we need something to say to you...” William said.
William explained to his mom everything about their idea for Angelina’s gift for her birthday. “But, please, don’t tell Angelina about our idea, okay?” William said. “Sure, William, dear! Hmmmm...Serena Silvertail said that if someone wants to have some ballet lessons with her, they can come to Dacovia. That’s where she is.” Mrs. Longtail said. “Hey, maybe we can go there. I’m sure that Serena Silvertail wouldn’t bother if she is going to give us some ballet lessons.” Alice said. The others agreed with her. So...they headed to each other’s home and made their backpacks. Their parents didn’t say anything about this. They agreed, too!
The next day, after leaving with the train, Mrs. Longtail told the mouselings: “If Angelina asks about you, I will tell her that you are on a trip, okay?”. “Yes, mom! And...don’t worry, we are going to be fine.” William said. After that, he and the girls left with the train.
When they got in Dacovia, Serena Silvertail was waiting for them at the station. “Welcome, little mouselings! You will live in my house!” Serena Silvertail said. “Wow, this is great!” Flora said. “But...Serena, are you sure that we will not bother you if we stay in your house?” Felicity asked. “No, no! In fact, I’m very happy that you are staying with me! I’ve always wanted to show to little mouselings, just like you, my house. It’s very, very big, almost like a hotel!” Serena Silvertail said.
Indeed, Serena Silvertail’s house was big like a hotel. Her husband was waiting at the door. “Welcome, little mouselings! I hope you are going to love our house!” he said. “Why all of the big mouselings call us “little mouselings”? We are eight years old, not one!” Gracie said to William, rolling her eyes. “Well...yeah, it’s a little bit annoying, but we can’t do nothing.” Vici said, smiling.
Everyday Serena Silvertail taught Alice, William, Flora, Felicity, Gracie and Vici how to dance perfectly.
In the meantime Angelina found out about her friends’ trip. Now she wanted so much to go with them...
When Alice and the others arrived in Chipping Cheddar, exactly on the important day (Angelina’s birthday), found out something terrible (not so terrible, actually...): Angelina went with her parents and Polly, her sister, to London. And now....Alice and the others couldn’t show Angelina their surprise...the big surprise... They were very sad. But they were still going to do that...they practiced a lot! They couldn’t give up!
After four days, Angelina came back in Chipping Cheddar. Alice, William, Flora, Felicity, Gracie and Vici invited Angelina to their show and they performed so...so...so magical and splendid! Angelina was very happy! “Thank you, my friends! So you didn’t go to a trip, you just went in Dacovia to Serena Silvertail to teach you ballet! Oh, thank you so much, again!” Angelina said. “But the important thing is that...” she continued. “...we are going to be forever best friends!” they all said together, laughing.
Yes, Angelina, Alice, William, Flora, Felicity, Gracie and Vici will remain...FOREVER...good friends! The End
