The Huge and Horrible Monster by Teodora Leon

It was autumn and all the children were back to school again. Some of them were happy and some of them were not... Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin were very sad that the holiday finished. “I just can’t believe that the summer holiday went by so fast! Now we have to start school again... it’s not a big problem, of course, all the children are doing this!” Will said. She and the other girls were walking in the park. They were enjoying the last day of the summer holiday. “Yeah, but we are going to wake up every day so early and the teachers will give us homework to do!” Irma said with a sad voice. “Don’t worry, Irma, this is the best for us! If you want to take the exams and some other competions, you must work as lot as you can. And don’t forget: we are going to have two weeks with no school for Chirstmas and another one for Easter.” Taranee said. “I think you are right...” Irma said. “Of course Taranee is right!” Cornelia said. “Girls, I think we did forget something!” Hay Lin said and stopped walking. “What did we forget?” Will asked. “What if Oracle and the other people from Kandrakar need us sometimes to fight with bad creatures and save the world? We can’t leave from school just to do all those things. Especially that this year we have an exam and we must work and prepare for it!” Hay Lin said. “You’re right, Hay Lin! I do hope we don’t have to go to Kandrakar many times!” Irma said.
The next day, all the children from the whole world went to school. At Sheffield Institute, Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin were with the other kids and they were waiting to enter in their school. After a while, the director of the Sheffield Institute arrived and annonuced: “Welcome to school again, boys and girls! I hope you had a wonderful holiday! Me and all the teachers wish to all of you good luck at school!”
When Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin finished their classes, they went in the park again. They were happy because in the first day of school, the teacher were not giving to the children homework to do. “At least I can play for a while today!” Irma said, happilly, jumping in front of her friends and throwing her books, notebooks and school bag everywhere! Hay Lin was collecting Irma’s things from the ground. “What on the Earth are you doing, Irma? Why are you throwing your books and notebooks everywhere?” Will asked. “I’m happy! I’ve got a free day and I can listen to music and play with my brother, Christopher! What does that mean? Relaxing...” Irma said.
In the afternoon, Will and the other girls were at their home. Will was playing with her little brother, William, Irma was listening to music, Taranee was in her garden and was taking pictures, Cornelia was watching TV with her sister, Lillian and Hay Lin was drawing some cool outfits. Suddenly the Heart of Kandrakar (from Will’s neck) started to glow and make loud noises. “Will, what’s that noise?” Mrs. Vandom, Will’s mother, asked. Will was scared. What is she going to do? Her mother couldn’t know that she and her other friends were having magic powers! Luckily, the noise from the Heart of Kandrakar stopped and everything was safe...”Will, what was that noise?” Mrs. Vandom asked. “I don’t know, mom, maybe it was from the outside.” Will said. “All right! Be careful of what are you doing because I don’t want any mess, okay?” Will’s mother said. “Yes, mom!” Will said. Then she said: “Can I go for a while outside with the other girls? I must tell them something!”. “Okay, but not so long! At 8:30 P.M. you must be home, eat your dinner and go to bed!” Mrs. Vandom said. “All right, mom!” Will said. “Will no bye-bye!” William said with a sad voice. “Don’t worry, William, I’ll be back soon!” Will said, hugging her little brother and then she left.
After 30 minutes, the Witch girls met next to the park. Will told her friends everything about the Heart of Kandrakar. “Maybe the Oracle and the other people need us. We must go there quickly!” Taranee said. “We mustn’t stay a lot because my mom said to me that if I’m coming late home, she will be very mad!” Cornelia said. “Okay, then let’s go!” Hay Lin said.
Soon the 5 good friends were in Kandrakar. The Oracle was waiting for them. “At last, you are here! I’ve got something important to tell you!” the Oracle said. Cornelia saw Caleb and Elyon, her best friends from Kandrakar. “Hi, Caleb! Hi, Elyon!” Cornelia said. “Hi, Corny!” Elyon said, smiling and waving to her. Caleb waved, too. Elyon was the princess of Kandrakar and Caleb was one of her trusty servants. “What is happening, Oracle?” Will asked. “I’m afraid that Kandrakar is in danger! Your grandmother, Hay Lin, told me that a monster will come to us in a few days and destroy Kandrakar!” the Oracle said. “Oh, my gosh!” Irma said. “I was wondering if you could stay in those days with us to be prepared for the monster’s attack. We will give you water and food, of course!” Oracle said. “But, Oracle, we have school these days. I was wondering if we can come back again in the weekend. Is that good?” Taranee asked. The Oracle thought of that for a minute, then he said: “All right, but if the monster is coming to Kandrakar, you must come really quickly!” the Oracle said. “Done!” Cornelia said.
Luckily, nothing happened in Kandrakar so Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin could go to school and make their homework in peace. When the weekend started, the Heart of Kandrakar began to glow again. That meant only one thing: the monster was getting closer to Kandrakar! “Quickly, let’s get to Kandrakar!” Hay Lin said. They got there in time. From a distance, they could see the monster. It was very, VERY huge and horrible! Hay Lin’s grandmother came next to the Oracle and the other people from Kandrakar. “Grandma!” Hay Lin said, suprised. “Nice to see you, Hay Lin! You must be prepared to fight with the monster!” her grandmother said. “I am, grandma, I am...I’m a little bit scared, too...” Hay Lin said. “Don’t worry, I know that you and your friends are going to get rid of this monster!” Yan Lin said (I mean Hay Lin’s grandma). When the monster was getting closer to the people, the Witch girls started to fly. “It’s time to say goodbye to this monster!” Will shouted. But before they could realize, the monster destroyed Kandrakar with a single kick. The Oracle, Caleb, Elyon, Yan Lin and the other people fell down. “Oh, no! But...how could it be?!” Irma said and she remained shocked. “You, monster! Yes, you! Why did you want to destroy Kandrakar?” Taranee asked very angry. “Well...Phobos, the Prince of Darkness and his helper, Cedric, told me to do that.” the monster said. “Oh, yeah? Here is lesson for destroying Kandrakar and listening to Phobos and Cedric!” Cornelia said and, with her magic powers, some big vines appeared and kept the monster tightly in a place. Taranee made a circle of fire and it appeared around the monster and Irma and Hay Lin, with water and cold wind, froze the monster. Will, with the Heart of Kandrakar, made the monster disappear (Phobos, who was looking at a magical globe to see what it was happening with the monster, saw everything and he got SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad!). Kandrakar appeared again and now everything was safe! “Well done, Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin! You are our heroes. We couldn’t have done without you because we don’t have good powers just like you five!” the Oracle said. Everyone was happy! From that day, nobody attacked Kandrakar anymore! They knew that the Witch girls were so powerful and they could get rid of anyone!!!
