Teodora’s Book Reviews: “Danny Danger and the Cosmic Remote” by Adam Frost

Everyone wants to control time... To pause it or rewind it... Well, if you would like to have a cosmic remote to do anything you want with time, meet Daniel Danger (or Danny, for short).

He has annoying parents (who are always angry with him) and an older sister named Mia. Danny got a cosmic remote from his cool Uncle Charlie. The two of them are like best friends. They always have a lot of fun when they are together. (“Uncle Charlie and Danny would spend the afternoon in the garden, pretending to be cavemen, building a shelter out of branches and leaves and garden chairs. They’d disappear into Danny’s bedroom and imagine they were astronauts and make a rocket out of boxes and rugs and bedclothes. They’d take over the kitchen and tell Mrs. Danger they were scientists and create a potion out of bleach and orange juice and flour and washing-up liquid.”)
Uncle Charlie works for an organization called EUREKA! (“We look after people’s gadgets. You see, there are some pretty incredible gadgets out there – they can control people’s thoughts, beam people on the surface of the moon. One of the gadgets we look after is the cosmic remote.”) He gave Danny the cosmic remote because he really needed it. (“Each gadget is paired with someone who really needs it.” said Uncle Charlie. “And, Danny, you really needed to step out of time. You didn’t need rocket boots. You didn’t need laser vision. You needed a cosmic remote.” “I see.” said Danny. “I think.” “And when you stop needing it...” said Uncle Charlie. “... it’ll stop working.”) The problem is that the Night Scientist (an evil scientist) wants the cosmic remote. Danny isn’t going to be able to fast-forward his way out of this problem...
You might think: why is this scientist called “the Night Scientist”? Well, that’s exactly the same question, which popped in my mind as I was reading... Soon, I found out the answer: “He (the Night Scientist) began to work around the clock, rarely leaving his laboratory, sleeping for a few hours in the afternoon. This caused a dramatic change in his appearance. Without sunlight, his skin grew paler and paler and his hair became crinkly and eventually fell out. His eyes began to look like a nocturnal animal’s: bright yellow with large black pupils. Soon he found out that he couldn’t go out during the day, as the sunlight hurt his eyes and burned his skin. It was around this time that he began to be known as “the Night Scientist”.”) To tell the truth, this description kind of scared me. I tried to imagine a bald man with a very pale skin and bright yellow eyes.
Mia and Eric (Danny’s best friend) help Danny to get far away from the Night Scientist. After a few entertaining adventures and breath-taking moments, the Night Scientist is taken away to North Pole... No sunlight: the perfect destination for a scientist like him, am I right or wrong?
Danny uses this cosmic remote to get out of trouble. When he makes a mistake and his parents find it out, he just presses Rewind and repairs the mistake. I bet that every kid in this world would like a cosmic remote... Don’t you think?
“If you like stories with villainous villains, awesome adventures and gadgets galore, then Danny Danger is your man!” Hear that? Dan is your man!”
I can’t wait to read “Danny Danger and the Space Twister”... I hope I will get it soon! :)
