The Missing Doll House by Miri and Teo

Pepper Pots N Pans, Patch Treasurechest and Sprinkle Spice Cookie were three siblings who lived together in a big house right in the middle of the Lalaloopsy Land. Pepper was the oldest child. That’s why she had to take care of Sprinkle and keep an eye on her naughty pirate brother...
It was a sunny day of May when Pepper was in the town, looking for a birthday present for Sprinkle. Every year she bought her little sister stuffed toys, books and cookies. This time she wanted to get her something special. “Oh dear, what should I buy for her? What should I buy?” Pepper asked herself. “You can buy a doll or even more! A very nice present for young girls, if you ask me. But what’s the occasion, sweetie?” a voice behind her said. Pepper turned around and saw an old woman. She wasn’t that ugly, but she was wearing torn clothes. “Um... It’s my sister’s birthday. She is turning 7 tomorrow and I have to...” Pepper started, but the woman interrupted her. “Goodness gracious, why didn’t you say so? Quick, come with me!” she said, pulling Pepper after her. They entered “Cassandra’s Toys for Toddlers”, an old toyshop. Pepper looked around. On the shelves there were lots of doll houses. “Now, sweetie, tell me: can you remember what present you got on your 7th birthday?” the woman asked. Pepper thought for a while. Her great grandmother bought her a present that day. “What was it? An apron? A cookbook? Piggy? Silly me, I got her when I was 10 years old! Oh, for crying out loud, I can’t remember a thing!” the girl thought. But afterwards she could. “A doll house! I got a doll house!” Pepper shouted and smiled. But her smile soon turned into a frown. Of course, each Lalaloopsy girl received a doll house when she turned 7. This precious gift protected her until the end... How could she forget such an important detail?
Cassandra shook her head and chuckled. She took a nice, little, orange house from a shelf.

She opened it gently, revealing six beautiful dolls and their accessories. Pepper was amazed! “It’s... It’s beautiful!” she whispered. The woman didn’t say anything. She just took two other dolls from one of her pockets and showed them to the girl. “Your sister’s name is Sprinkle Spice Cookie, isn’t it?” Cassandra asked. “Yes, but how do you...” Pepper answered, but she was interrupted once again. “Shush! No time for lolly-gagging! See this doll? It looks just like your sister, doesn’t it?” the woman said, lifting her left hand. Pepper’s eyes were big. Yes, Cassandra was holding a mini Sprinkle doll. The girl shook her head, saying “yes”. The woman lifted her right hand, showing the other doll. “This is how your sister will look when she grows up.” Cassandra said. Pepper looked at the doll. It had the same pink hair. It was wearing a yellow and pink dress and pink boots. Pepper wanted to cry. She had never seen such an extraordinary thing before! “Listen to me, sweetie! Every Lalaloopsy girl has a doll house like this. They play with it until they get bored of it. The girls can only use the simple dolls, they can’t see these two figurines! They’re invisible for them, but they’re always in the house. Take care of this valuable thing, dearie! Sprinkle is too young to understand such a complicated story... But when she gets older, she’ll just know what she has to do with this special present! And don’t forget: if the house disappears forever, Sprinkle might die...” Cassandra said. Pepper gulped. She took the doll house. The woman was right again. The girl hadn’t been playing with her own house for a very long time, but she still had it in the basement! Pepper thanked Cassandra and went back home.
“Sprinkle! I have a surprise for you!” the girl shouted. She could hear a tiny laughter coming from upstairs. After a few seconds, Sprinkle was right in front of her older sister. Her whole face was full of chocolate. Pepper laughed. “You’ve been eating cookies again, haven’t you, missy?” she asked, smiling. “I was hungry. Show me the surprise! Pretty please!” Sprinkle said, jumping up and down. Pepper showed her a box. She started to open it with gentle moves. When she got out the doll house, Sprinkle let out a gasp. “Happy Birthday, honey!” Pepper said, hugging her sister. “Oh my gosh, this is the best birthday gift ever! It’s even better than any cookie jar in the whole world! Thank you so much, Pepper!” Sprinkle said.
A few days passed by. The little cookie eater was playing with the doll house all day long! One morning Patch finally saw his sister’s present. “Patch! There you are! I wanted to show you my new dolls!” Sprinkle said. The little pirate had never been interested in toys for girls, but this time he approached his sister, looking carefully at the house. “Dolls, eh? Well, shiver me timbers, what an interesting gift!” Patch whispered. “It’s not just interesting... It’s perfect! Look, this is Peppy Pom Poms. She has a pet dog. She likes to sleep in her comfy bed!

This is Bea Spells-a-lot. She is a very smart girl who finds a solution to any problem! She has a younger sister named Specs Reads-a-lot and a pet owl. Owls are intelligent creatures, you know.

Meet Sunny Side Up! She has a tent for camping! She is obsessed with marshmallows and has a pet bird.

Oh, I almost forgot about Toffee Cocoa Cuddles. She eats too much chocolate... like me! She even bit her pet dog’s left ear made out of white chocolate! Poor doggie!

Oh, and this... This is my favorite doll: Princess Nutmeg. She is different than the others. Even her pet rabbit looks different! Nutmeg has purple skin. She likes ballet, even though she is quite clumsy...

Do you like the dolls, Patch? Do you, do you?” Sprinkle said. Patch didn’t answer. He just looked at the dolls. Suddenly, Pepper came into the room. “Patch? Can you help me in the garden?” she asked. “Bloody hell! Gardening is not for pirates!” the boy shouted and went out of the room. Pepper sighed. “I can help you! You’ve done so much for me!” Sprinkle said. The two sisters went outside to work together.
When they returned, something terrible happened... “My doll house! It has disappeared!” Sprinkle shouted. Pepper, who was carrying a basket full of carrots, almost dropped the vegetables. “What do you mean??? It can’t be possible!” the girl said. “No, I’m saying the truth! I left the house right here, in the living room. Now it’s gone!” Sprinkle said. Pepper was shocked. She opened her mouth, but she couldn’t say a single word. Instead, she kneeled down and started to cry. Sprinkle came closer to her and gave her a warm hug. “Don’t cry, Pepper. I’m sure that the dolls are all right, wherever they are. And we’ll find them!” she said. “But you won’t be all right. And I’ll lose you!” Pepper thought. She stood up. Tears were still rolling down her cheeks. “Come on! We have to find the house! Immediately!” she said. “Hooray! We’ll save the dolls!” the little girl shouted happily. “And I’ll save you!” Pepper said to herself.
The two sisters searched and searched, but there was no sign of the doll house anywhere... Pepper was starting to get worried... Very, very worried. She needed help... And quickly! She thought of Cassandra. “Maybe she can help us...” Pepper whispered. She took Sprinkle’s hand. “Come on, I know where we have to go.” she said. “What about Patch? Shouldn’t we tell him where we are going?” Sprinkle asked. When the two girls got outside, they saw their brother in his tree house, which had the shape of a boat. “Oh, never mind him. He’ll be fine. He doesn’t even know that we still exist.” Pepper replied, dragging Sprinkle after her.
Cassandra didn’t expect to see the two girls at all. When she heard Pepper’s story, the old woman got angry and said: “Well, I’ve heard of girls losing dolls, but I’ve never thought that someone could lose an entire house!” “I’m so sorry, ma’am. But... it just... disappeared!” Pepper answered. “Nonsense! Nothing can vanish into thin air! There’s only one way to find out where the house is. Have you searched everywhere?” the woman asked. She brought a huge pot and a few potions in the middle of the room. “Yes, every single corner.” Pepper declared. “Well, we haven’t checked Patch’s boat, you know.” Sprinkle said. “There was no need for that. Patch never plays with dolls. He would have never taken the house!” Pepper replied. She looked at Cassandra. She was mixing potions in her cauldron. The girls didn’t even observe the fire beneath the pot... “She looks like a witch!” Pepper thought to herself. Cassandra whispered a few words and then an image appeared in the magic pot. It showed a blonde boy playing in the garden. He said: “You stole all my money, you little devils! Skully, how should we punish these ‘orrible thieves? Oh, yes, what a brilliant idea! Let’s burn these... dolls! Ha-ha-ha!” Pepper gasped. “Oh no! It’s Patch! Patch is our brother! He took Sprinkle’s doll house! He took it! We have to go! Thank you so much for your help, ma’am! Come on, Sprinkle!” Pepper shouted. She grabbed her sister’s hand and the two of them ran away.
When they arrived back home, they saw Patch. He was about to throw the whole doll house in the fire he had started. “PATCH! FOR GOODNESS’ SAKE, STOP!!!” Pepper shouted. Sprinkle was almost crying. The little pirate stopped and shot his older sister an annoyed look. “Pepper, can’t ye see that I am playing here?” he asked. Sprinkle approached his brother and told him: “Patch, please, give me the house back! I don’t know why it is so important, but I don’t want to see Pepper sad anymore! Please, do this for me... and for her!” Patch looked at his two sisters. He sighed and handed over the stolen doll house, apologizing for everything. Pepper was so happy. Sprinkle was such a sweet and smart girl! When the cookie eater left excitedly, Pepper came to Patch and punched him in his arm. “Ouch! What was that for?” the pirate asked. “For everything you did! If you had burnt the house, Sprinkle would have... died...” Pepper replied. Patch didn’t say anything, but he looked very worried. The two of them remained silent for a very long time. They loved their sister very much and they would have never harmed her. They wanted to see her safe... just like the two special dolls hidden in the heart of the magical house!
