The Haunted House by Teodora Leon

Have you seen the Bolt movie? If not, I can tell you how the characters are…
Penny is a wonderful girl who loves animals. She is always good and polite with everyone. She’s a good actress, too! Most of the time she wears a red T-shirt, a black skirt, one pair of stockings with black and gray stripes and two black boots. She loves to play with Bolt (her dog), Mittens (her cat) and Rhino (don’t worry, it’s not a real rhino, it’s only a hamster) and she likes to have adventures, too! Penny talks with a calm voice (she changes her voice only if she is angry or worried).
Bolt is an awesome dog. He’s white and he has big ears. A long time ago, Bolt thought he had powers (super vision or super bark) and without Mittens’s help, he could never know the truth...He was a star (just like Penny and many, many other actors). Bolt was disappointed when he found out that he was an ordinary dog, but he knew that Penny was still loving him. Bolt always thought that Penny was kidnapped by The Green Eye Man...But, as I said earlier, now Bolt knows that The Green Eye Man doesn’t exist and he doesn’t have any super powers...He likes to stay with Penny and his friends, too! Bolt always plays with his favorite toy (Mr. Carrot) and goes for walks many times. He can talk, but Penny doesn’t know...
Mittens is a black cat. She is always thin and never gets fat (even if she eats twenty mice and fifteen birds!)...She is a very cute cat and enjoys to play with Bolt, Penny and Rhino. She can talk, too, just like Bolt and Rhino. Her favorite thing to do is to stay on the sofa and wait for Penny’s mother to caress her...I really wish that I could have a cat like Mittens...
Rhino is an orange hamster. He has a black spot on his fur. Rhino likes to walk in his hamster ball, eat biscuits and watch TV. When Bolt was a movie star, Rhino watched all Bolt’s episodes. He was his biggest fan! Rhino wants to have cool adventures with Bolt and Mittens everytime!
Oh...those characters are sooo extraordinary!... Now I want to tell you something: I made a story with Bolt, Mittens, Penny and Rhino just for you! I hope you will enjoy it...Here it is, you can start reading it:
Penny was at her grandparents’ farm. Bolt, Mittens and Rhino were with her, too! Penny was so happy that she was at her grandparents’! She was always going there in her summer holidays. Grandparents’ farm was very big! It was red and its roof was white. That farm was full with animals! It had one cow, two goats, three chickens, four horses, five pigs and six sheep.
That summer Penny wanted to learn how to ride a horse. Her grandfather was ready to teach her. They went in the barn to take a horse. “Which horse do you want to take?” grandfather asked. Penny looked at the four horses. They were black, brown, gray and white. The black one was named Scarlet, the brown one was Brownie, the gray one was Felix and the white one was Snowy. “Hmmmm, I will take...Snowy!” Penny said.
Bolt, Mittens and Rhino were watching Penny riding Snowy. Her grandfather was proud of her! “You’re very good, Penny! Bravo, you are riding Snowy wonderfully!” grandfather said. Penny was very happy, just like her pets...
After some days, Penny went for a walk with Snowy, Bolt, Mittens and Rhino. They were going to a picnic! “I love picnics!” Rhino shouted. “I’m going to eat all the biscuits from the picnic basket!!!” he continued. “Stay calm, Rhino! And don’t forget about us! We’re starving, too!” Mittens said. “Yep. And by the way, now it’s my turn to eat some biscuits. You ate them last time, Rhino!” Bolt said. “No, I didn’t! Or maybe...but I only ate four biscuits...or a whole jar...” Rhino said. Bolt and Mittens rolled their eyes. They knew Rhino, the biscuit-eater!...
Soon after that, Penny found a perfect place, away from the bright sun: under a big tree in the shadow. Everybody couldn’t wait to eat all the food from the picnic basket! They knew that everything was going to be yummy! Rhino let Bolt eat the biscuits and he ate some apples and Mittens ate fish. Penny ate all the sandwiches with cheese and meat and all the chocolate pancakes. And she still wanted some more food!!! Finally, Penny got out from the picnic basket an ENORMOUS strawberry cake made by her grandmother. Bolt, Mittens, Penny and Rhino loved strawberry cakes, they were very delicious! Everyone ate a HUGE piece of strawberry cake!
When they finished eating, Bolt, Mittens and Rhino started to play together with Rhino’s hamster ball and Penny started to read her favorite book, “Charlotte’s Web”...Without observing, Snowy started to run and got into the forest nearby. Now she was lost...and scared, too! Penny was worried when she saw that Snowy was missing! She ran with Bolt, Mittens, Rhino in the forest, thinking that maybe Snowy went in there!
It was late and there was no sign of Snowy! What was Penny going to do? Her grandparents would be disappointed...Oh dear, oh dear, Penny was very sad! She sat on a rock and started to cry. “Poor Penny!” Bolt said. “And poor Snowy! She’s all alone in this strange and scary forest!...” Mittens said. Suddenly, they heard a neigh. Penny gasped. “That’s Snowy. Come on, guys, we’ve got to save her!” she said and started to run with her pets after Snowy...
Guess where Penny found Snowy! In a house! But not in an ordinary house, in a HAUNTED house!...Snowy just saw a ghost in the haunted house...that’s why she neighed...Soon after that, the three friends found Snowy in a corner. Penny knew the horse language and when Snowy told her that she saw a ghost, nobody believed her. Everybody knew that ghosts and all the fairytale creatures don’t exist! But when Bolt, Mittens, Penny and Rhino saw a moving armour, two scary ghost, three spooky monsters and four strange bats, they realized that Snowy was right...”Oh, no! How can we get out of here now?” Penny asked. Bolt knew that Penny hated haunted houses...Bolt went around and then barked. “What is it, Bolt? Have you found something?” Penny asked. Then she realized what Bolt had found...”Bolt, you found an exit! Good job, boy!” Penny said, happy. Now Bolt, Mittens, Penny, Rhino and Snowy rushed to the door to go outside, but someone blocked their way! “Who is in my house?!” the stranger asked. “W-w-w-we did. Please don’t hurt us! Our horse just got lost in your haunted house...” Penny said with a tiny voice. “Haunted house, you say? Well, you’re wrong, miss! My house isn’t haunted.” the stranger said. “Then what about the ghosts and the monsters that are in your house?” Penny asked. “Those? Those are just puppets. I put them to scare the people.” the strange man said. “Why do you want to scare people?” Penny asked again. “Because...because...oh, it’s a sad story and I don’t want to say it!” the man sobbed. He was definitely very sad!...”Please tell us what happened!” Penny begged the man. The man turned the light on. Penny could see him better now. He was tall, it had brown hair and black eyes and he was wearing a jacket. He brought a chair to sit and then, he said: “Okay, I’m going to tell you the story, but please don’t tell anyone about it, all right?” the man said. “Sure, you can count on us!” Penny said.
While the man said the story, Bolt, Mittens, Penny and Rhino listened carefully and amazed. Snowy didn’t pay so much attention...The story was about the man who, some years ago, killed one of his enemies. After the horrible thing that he made, the man heard strange things and even saw the enemy’s spirit walking in his house. So, the man hid away from the people and made some traps (the puppets) to scare the people and leave him all alone. He didn’t want to see any human from now on!...The man was very terrified because every night he saw the enemy’s spirit floating above him and heard some strange and scary sounds. While the man was still telling the story, Bolt whispered to Mittens: “He’s a murderer! We have to get out of here!”. “Yeah...” Mittens said, shaking with fright. “Well, I think that this story is boring!” Rhino said and yawned. While the man was telling the story, Penny got frightened too. A smart idea came to her mind. She had her mobile phone with her, she thought to call the police, but how. The murderer wouldn’t let her. Luckily she was a very fast message writer. She could write her messages on her mobile phone even with her eyes closed! She texted the police, telling them where they were and that they were in danger. Then Penny tried to save some time said to him: “Well, mister, I think that you’re not doing the right thing to hide from the people!”. “I don’t?”. “You don’t! You should make a friend and tell him your story. I’m sure that he could help! I wish I could, but I’m too little...” The man went on with his story, but Penny became more worried, she couldn’t listen anymore. Fortunately, in a short time the police came and the man was arrested.
When the five friends arrived at home, Penny told grandma and grandpa all about their (scary) adventure! Her grandparents were very surprised when they heard the whole story! Everyone was very happy, especially Bolt! He was very proud to have such a smart girl with him!!!
